Meet the Alexanders
Matters of the Hearts was born from a simple conviction: when love is rooted in God’s design, it can strengthen families, churches, and communities both locally and abroad.
Matters of the Hearts was born from a simple conviction: when love is rooted in God’s design, it can strengthen families, churches, and communities both locally and abroad.
A true lover of life and a counselor at heart, Dr. Darricka Carter Alexander—known by many simply as “Dr. D”—was raised in a small town in New Jersey just outside of Philadelphia. From an early age, she developed a deep passion for people, purpose, and helping others navigate life with clarity and hope.
Dr. D’s professional journey is as diverse as it is impactful, spanning the practice of podiatric medicine, nonprofit development, and large-scale event planning. She is also the owner of College Events, LLC, based in Richmond, Virginia. Across every role and season of her career, one common thread remains: a commitment to supporting people, shaped by lived experiences, lessons learned, and the ability to turn past challenges into a foundation for a better future.
This philosophy is the very foundation of Matters of the Hearts. In 2017, while planning her wedding to the man God uniquely ordained for her life, the vision for the organization was birthed. What began as a moment of personal joy became a divine calling—to create a platform dedicated to strengthening relationships locally and abroad through love, faith, and intentional connection.
Grounded in an unwavering faith in God, Darricka draws from her own testimony of God’s restoring power and saving grace to walk alongside others who have experienced devastating life events. She lives daily by the scripture found in 1 Corinthians 2:5: “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”
In her free time, Darricka enjoys mentoring young adults, nurturing the next generation of leaders, and traveling with her husband, Benjamin. Each morning, she wakes with gratitude—thanking God for a new day and the opportunity to Live, Love, and Laugh.
